About SEC

History

    The Science Education Center was established in 1974 with the support of the Ministry of Education, Republic of China. The main reasons of having this center are in the following: conduct a variety of research projects which lead to the improvement of science and mathematics teaching and learning; the development and dissemination of  secondary school mathematics and science curricula; the publication of the Science Education Monthly Journal and other publication related to science education; and the development of  instructional materials including a variety of audio-visual media.
     Dr. Kuan-Jen Yang, the Dean of  the College of Science, was the first director of Science Education Center. He initiated the Reformation Projects  for Improvement of Junior High School Science and Mathematics Curricula.
    Dr. Chin-Chi Chao, the second director of center, started to execute the projects of Science Education Steering Committee in September 1979. Professor Min-Tong Wey was the third director of center from August 1980 to July 1995, and Dr. Jau-D Chen was the fourth director of center from August 1995 to January 2000;then Dr. Ching-Song Shern was the fifth director of center from February 2000 to July 2000 and Dr. Tai-Shan Fang, a professor of chemistry department, was  the sixth  director of center from  August , 2000 to 2005. Dr. Chen-Yung Lin, a professor of Life Sciences Department, served as the director of center from September 2005 to July 2006.Dr. Chun-Yen Chang, Professor of Dept. of Earth Sciences, (http://ese.geos.ntnu.edu.tw/~chunyen) is currently the Director of the Science Education Center since August 2006. 
 

Goals & Tasks
Research‧Dissemination & Service‧Publication

1. Conduct variety of researches that lead to improvement of mathematics and science teaching and learning.
2. The development and dissemination of high school mathematics and science instructional materials, teaching aids, and evaluation materials and methods.
3. Conduct international symposia, workshop, and conferences on topics of mathematics and science education.
4. Conduct workshops or activities for mathematics and science teachers, which provide opportunities for innovation of teaching and learning.
5. Collecting and exhibiting international mathematics and science education materials.
6. Publish Science Education Monthly Journal, report of research projects, instructional materials, and curriculum materials.
7. Conduct projects for  high school mathematics and science gifted students.
8. Participated the study of the International Association for the Evaluation of Education Achievement (IEA).
9. Conducting mathematic and scientific workshops for high school students.
10. Establish a science education network. 
11. Associated with Department of Ministry Education in disseminating science education.
12 Study the 9-year Consistent, Coherent and Integrated Learning Hierarchy of  Math   and Science Concept
